Sail Away with the NEW St Malo Collection from EAST

This collection is designed to be lived in, laughed in and relaxed in. Its clean silhouettes of best selling shapes are suitably flattering and incredibly chic.

Bold stripes are teamed with a myriad of spots in classic nautical colours of deep sea blue, sky blue and cream. These are contrasted with deep red accents and strong highlights of grass green and corn taken from the neighbouring countryside.

Inspired by the streets of St Malo, these pieces will bring a touch of the French riviera to your weekend wardrobe. The quaint cobbled streets and provencal markets inspire the 'traditional meets modern' merla print which is stamped on jersey tops, tunics and dresses. The new bistro's and glimmering yachts inspire the graphic prosecco spot print found on dresses and blouses. And these brave patterns are underpinned by classic wide leg trousers, long length cardigans, plain jersey vests and some quirky accessories for the ultimate French chic style.

As always, East has designed this collection to make your life easier. You can mix and match any items and be confident that you'll create a modern and stylish look.

Free Bike-Fitting Clinic Puts Recreational Riders of all Ages & Abilities on the Right Path – While Supporting Local Schools and Sustainable Living

The Studio in Danville is teaming up with Giant Bikes, Danville Bike Shop, Street Smarts and Sustainable Danville Area to host the GIANT Bike-Fitting Clinic on May 22, 2011 from 1-4pm at their group-fitness facility located along the Iron Horse Trail (in the Rose Garden retail center, 730 Camino Ramon at Sycamore Valley Blvd).

It's easy to see why May is national Bike Month, since spring is an ideal time for bike riding. Yet most folks who are dusting off their bikes now (or wishing they had one) are wondering why they struggle with comfort, performance and overall enjoyment of cycling. This free community event goes far beyond helping adult and youth riders identify bike styles that best match their needs and goals. Bikers of all ages and abilities get the opportunity to experience a brand new model from the 2011 Giant Bike Collection that has been custom-fitted to complement their unique body mechanics, dimensions and strength, as well as their preferred riding style.

There will be a diverse selection of bikes to demo, ranging from casual beach cruisers to high performance race models. It will be easy to purchase any of these custom-fitted bikes, and it's definitely encouraged since 10% of proceeds will be donated to a local school (of the customers' choice) or to the Juvenile Diabetes Re women's coats search Foundation.

"This Bike-Fitting Clinic is intended to be experiential," says Dana Prieto, Fitness Director at The Studio. "The bikes will be set up on stands (trainers) so that the public can feel what it's like to ride a racing bike versus a bike intended for cruising. It's important to have your indoor fitness routine prepare you to enjoy an active lifestyle. Our studio cycling class is a perfect complement for outdoor cycling."

Danville Bikes will be conducting expert bike fittings and demonstrations on clipless pedals, as well as offering advice about saddle and helmet fit. Giant Bicycle Representative and USA Cycling Coach, Kelli Poindexter, will be available to discuss women-specific bike issues and to guide people on apparel considerations that support year-round comfort and performance; a large selection of cycling clothing will be available for purchase. Team ClubSport will be on hand to provide information about local training and racing for cyclists of all ages and abilities.

Mike Stewart, Account Executive of Giant Bicycle adds, "This event is not only a great way to raise awareness of the benefits of cycling during National Bike Month, it gives people a chance to feel the dramatic difference that a properly adjusted bike makes for a riding experience. Giant Bicycle is here to help Diablo Valley residents find the appropriate bike to fit both their cycling lifestyle and their specific sizing requirements."

Sustainable Danville Area (SDA) has organized an informal family-friendly ride that will start at 11:30am that day on the Iron Horse Trail near the San Ramon Valley High School. They've also negotiated some tasty lunch deals for folks who want to "refuel" on their way to/from the event, thanks to some of the Town's newly-recognized sustainable businesses. Riders can indulge by simply showing their bike helmets when ordering at Norm's Place on Hartz, La Boulange Bakery on Railroad or Jules Thin Crust in The Livery. SDA's co-founders point out, "You couldn't ask for a more ideal community to ride your bike in… Danville and its neighboring cities enjoy a mild climate, lush landscape and flat terrain makes it so enjoyable to ride all year around. And being located midway along the 18.5-mile Iron Horse Trail (in which one million people travel along each year), riders of all abilities can safely pedal to just about anywhere they need to go."

India Clothing – Sarees, Salwar Kameez & Kurtas for Summer 2011

ShalinIndia, an India shopping online store, brings, for men and women, a new range of summer dresses in coarse cotton fabric and natural colors. They are airy and designed to absorb sweat better.

Beat the heat this summer with unique summer dresses from India. Enjoy the sunshine under the protective cover of light and airy Indian clothing – sarees, salwar kameez, caftans, skirts, tops, long rectangular scarfs for women and kurtas and pyjamas for men.

ShalinIndia's summer dresses are made of coarse cotton fabric woven on handlooms. "Coarse cotton fabric absorbs sweat better and as a result the fabric does not stick to your body," says Shalini Verma, founder of ShalinIndia. "Besides, the loose fit of these dresses makes them airy and helps evaporate body sweat faster," adds Shalini Verma.

"The Indian saree is one of the most graceful dresses ever made for women. ShalinIndia's handloom woven cotton sarees, salwar kameez and caftans in subdued natural colors are specially designed to cater to the tastes of non-Indian women. Similarly, the long kurta and pyjama set, a comfort dress for men, makes for a great evening wear. One can wear them for the evening parties and stand out from the rest, while feeling relaxed and comfortable," adds Shalini Verma.

"ShalinIndia also brings for summer 2011, unique crinkled and beaded colorful cotton scarves that serve not only as elegant accessories for women, but also help to protect the face and body from the scorching Sun. These long cotton scarves are multi- purpose, and one can drape them as sarongs while enjoying on the beach," added Shalini Verma.
Fashion is incomplete without jewellery. Accordingly, ShalinIndia brings traditional and antique style India jewelry in sterling silver and gemstones. Silver has unique cooling properties and, therefore, suitable in warm weather. This al women's coats so explains why silver jewelry is so popular among Indian women. "Among our jewelry, especially suitable for summer, are belly-chains, armlets, and ankle bracelets in sterling silver; they are casual, charming and popular with women of all ages," said Shalini Verma.

ShalinIndia aims to make India online shopping easy for its customers. Its products are stored in India, US, UK, France, Germany and Canada. Shalini Verma says, "we deliver on time and reliably in any part of the world; our customers also do not need to worry about customs charges as items are often shipped from the same country locations, and we provide 'no questions asked' return and refund facility to our customers."

ShalinIndia is an online India shopping store selling mainly jewelry, clothing and home and garden products. Besides, selling its products through its own site, shalinindia.com, it also sells its products as ShalinIndia brand through Amazon in the US, UK, France, Germany and Japan, and through eBay in the US and UK.

Zappos Announces Back-to-School Looks for Juniors

Zappos.com, the online leader in clothing and shoes for men, women and kids, announces hot trends for juniors for the back-to-school season.

Casual, 80s-era retro styles are popular for juniors' tops. Burnout style shirts, acid washes and muted colors are big this season. Tank tops in loud colors or geometric prints are perfect to bring a bit of summer back to the classroom, especially when paired with a cardigan and jeans to ward off the chill of the air conditioning. As the weather turns cooler, look for last year's trend of plaid and flannel button-up shirts to remain a warm and stylish choice. Three-quarter-sleeve shirts bridge the gap between warm summer days and cooler fall ones and easily mix with cropped jackets or vests.

The skinny leg is persisting as the go-to silhouette for juniors' jeans, but big flared legs are also making a comeback, and Zappos has a shape to flatter every figure. Skinny or matchstick jeans in a dark wash can look modern when paired with feminine tops, or take on a punk-rock edge with a fitted t-shirt and a pair of boots. Flared jeans are the foundation for bohemian looks, especially in lighter or distressed washes.

One look that should be in every junior's wardrobe is a boot-cut pair of dark jeans and a shrunken blazer in black, navy or gray. A pair of ballet flats or boots makes this slightly dressed-up outfit just right for an in-class presentation or a fun night out with friends.

The options are endless when it comes to lugging books around while still looking great. Backpacks are ideal for complementing casual looks and carrying heavier loads. A tote is a perfectly stylish solution for a book and a few notebooks, and a messenger bag is just right for a laptop.

Find the best looks for juniors to go back to school in style at Zappos!

The Face And Fat Index Tells The True Story Of The Employment Outlook Replacing Lipstick Index As An Indicator Of Economic Health Says Research By Liberty Health Network.

Could the Face and Fat index replace the lipstick index as the actual indicator of the current economic and employment outlook in the US? In the 2000's Leonard Lauder came to the conclusion that lipstick sales could be used as an economic indicator, showing that purchases of cosmetics (especially lipstick) demonstrate a tendency to be inversely proportional to economic health. Lauder believed that women substitute more expensive purchases like clothing and hard goods for lipstick during economic downturns. The lipstick theory was debunked when lipstick sales failed to generate a statistically significant relationship to the ups and downs of the economy after the 2000's.

But Russell Bly, Chief Operating Officer with Liberty Health Network, LLC (LHN) believes his Face and Fat index says a lot about the employment outlook. He explains "We have the data. Although we have close to 100 different products and services in inventory, we are seeing an explosion in the sales of our Beau Visage Facelift Without Surgery At Home Facial System and our Weight Loss Plus and Slim EZ products. The increased sales are especially noticeable in our direct sales channels like Amazon.Com and Google Checkout."

"From a purely statistical point of view, we can track the sales increases in lock-step with the unemployment rate over the last 24 months. In speaking with our customers we are finding many purchasers fear the loss of their job to someone younger or healthier, supporting our analytics. Surprisingly to us, both Men and Women are purchasing our Facelift Mask with a number one priority of looking better at work. And since the attempts to overhaul health care, we've seen brisk sales in weight loss supplements. Customers are telling us that they are not only concerned about their appearance, but concerned about employers increasingly looking negatively at overweight employees due to increased health risks and health insurance liabilities. It's great when people just want to feel better about themselves. But with these two products, our internal research indicates many purchases are being made out of concern. Fear is a powerful motivator." Says Bly.

While LHN offers two powerful products for looking better and losing weight, ultimately the consumer will decide why to purchase. For now, it seems purchases correlate in large part to the jobs outlook. For many consumers, it really is the economy.

Brits Refuse to Wear Sun Protection at Home - Latest Research by leading self-tan brand St. Tropez Reveals

Yes, we may not have weather like Cyprus or the Maldives but that doesn't mean skin doesn't need protection.

Research conducted by leading self-tan brand St. Tropez into the dangers of sunbathing, has unearthed that over a third of the British public don't feel the need to protect their skin from the dangers of UV rays whilst on home soil.

The research, commissioned to mark Sun Awareness Week, which starts today, showed that Brits were unable to tell sun-fact from sun-fiction with women's jackets one in ten believing that the sun in the UK isn't as strong as it is in more tropical climes and 20 per cent of the public thinking you can't catch the sun through glass. Even more worrying, a further fifth of the population think one need to burn in order to get a tan.

In raising awareness of safe tanning, model and TV presenter Abbey Clancy says: "Being a mum, I'm keen to pass on beauty advice to the next generation so if at a festival, on lunch or in the park this summer, enjoy the sun safely by protecting your skin whatever the weather."

Findings further revealed that one in three Brits spend at least 30 minutes of their lunch-break basking in the sun when the weather's hot. Of those who enjoy some lunchtime sun, 50% said they didn't apply SPF, raising concerns around daily sun safety as one head towards summer.

Fashion's golden boy, Henry Holland says: "In the sun I always wear factor 50 on my face so I can enjoy the sun safely. Even in the winter, I use a nourishing moisturiser that contains SPF to keep my skin as damage-free as possible."

The worst offenders were shown to be those aged 18-24. Over half of this age group admitted they spent sunny lunch breaks in the sun, but just 15 per cent said they applied SPF to protect their skin when doing so. The study also revealed that men are more in need of education when it comes to sun protection than women, with over 34 per cent saying they wouldn't wear SPF to protect their skin when sunbathing in the UK. Whilst a huge 86 per cent of men and women stated they felt healthier and happier with a tan.

Dawn Porter, reporter and TV presenter adds: "I really limit the amount of time I lie in the sun. It's nice to soak up some vitamin D, but I don't do it to get a tan. Why damage your skin when you can get a spray tan that looks just as good, and does you no harm at all?"

Mum and TV personality Donna Air adds: "As a woman who has used self tan on and off for many years, I appreciate the importance of sensible tanning therefore I'll always use a high-factor SPF when in the sun. With so many great self tanners on the market, I happily wear a high SPF knowing that I'll still achieve a natural golden glow."

It's not just sunbathing at home where Brits need to be more sun-aware as over a fifth of the British public state they feel under pressure to return from holiday with a golden glow, despite admitting they find sunbathing dull. The region under most pressure appears to be Northern Ireland; with nearly 40 per cent of those surveyed stating a need to return from holiday with a golden glow.

Michelle Feeney, CEO of PZ Cussons Beauty comments: "As a responsible self tan brand, St.Tropez encourages people to protect their skin, promoting safe tanning. These statistics point towards the need for greater education in the UK to boost awareness of the risks of UV rays and change ingrained attitudes towards skin protection."

Nationwide clinic group sk:n is also backing Sun Awareness Week by helping to put sun risk in the spotlight by educating the UK population around the risks of using sun beds and prolonged exposure to the sun.

Nursing Director Ruth Breeden of sk:n says: "The risks of skin damage from UVA and UVB exposure are high. We see damage ranging from wrinkles, sagging and pigmentation spots through to the worrying early signs of skin cancer. At sk:n we offer a host of treatments but prevention is really the very best way of staying safe and beautiful in the sun. Saying 'no' to sunbeds, avoiding the summer sun between 11am and 3pm, covering up with light clothes and sunhats and applying a good SPF product that is appropriate to your skin tone will all help and Sun Awareness Week is really doing its bit to educate everyone with well researched and powerful independent research and information."

Disabled Veterans National Foundation Alerts Employers about New Veteran Hiring Guidelines and Offers Resources to Help

With the troop draw down in the Middle East, employers have a new labor pool of returning veterans. Many are coming home with physical injuries or "invisible" psychological disabilities, and employers need to remember these veterans are protected against job discrimination by the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA). Common injuries employers can expect in returning soldiers include missing limbs, burns, spinal cord injuries, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), hearing loss, and traumatic brain injuries. Veteran support organizations like the DVNF have put resources in place to help employers successfully hire and retain disabled veterans.

"There are many resources available to employers to hire, train and support veteran employees with disabilities so that both the employer women's jackets and veteran can be successful," said Raegan Rivers, Chief Administrative Officer of DVNF. "Employers need our help understanding what they are required by law to do, but also how they can help their veteran employees be successful through providing them the proper workspace and environment to increase their productivity."

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has two publications to help veterans and employers: Understanding Your Employment Rights Under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): A Guide for Veterans (Veterans' Guide) and Veterans and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA): A Guide for Employers (Employers' Guide).

Both publications are set up in a question and answer format and address ADA coverage and provide specific guidance on requesting and providing reasonable accommodation. The DVNF also has employment resources available on its website.

About Disabled Veterans National Foundation: The Disabled Veterans National Foundation exists to change the lives of men and women who came home wounded or sick after defending our safety and our freedom. A nonprofit 501c3, DVNF was founded in the fall of 2007 by six women veterans to expand their scope of work within the veteran's community. The DVNF has provided $16.1 million in cash and requested items such as clothing, food, health & hygiene products to tens of thousands of under-served & disabled veterans nationwide. UV Skinz to Exhibit at Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2012

UV Skinz, a leading provider of UPF 50+ sun protective apparel, is proud to announce the company's inaugural exhibitor participation at the Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2012 in Salt Lake City, Utah from August 2-5, 2012. UV Skinz encourages attendees of the 2012 Summer Market to visit booth #PV180 to learn about UV Skinz' wide array of sun protectiv women's jackets e wear and accessories and to find out just how UV Skinz is meeting increasing consumer demand for better sun protection solutions.

UV Skinz' attendance at the Summer Market is indicative of the company's dramatic growth over the past few years. "Sun protective clothing has been around for many years now but the category is just now starting to gain real traction among mass consumers ," explains Rhonda Sparks, Chief Executive Officer and President of UV Skinz. Sparks adds, "Our goal is to keep retailers ahead of the game by providing the best sun protection solution for their customers who are becoming more savvy about the benefits of UV protective swim and outdoor wear."

The National Cancer Institute reports that while many common cancer rates are falling, skin cancer rates within the U.S. continue to grow at alarming rates. Sparks says, "The recent delay in FDA sunscreen labeling requirements, the tanning bed debate and the recent Mayo Clinic report indicating that skin cancer rates have increased eight times in young women and four times in young men in just the past forty years, tells us that the need for proper sunscreen coverage is more critical than ever." Sparks continues, "The pain that skin damage and skin cancer causes is so preventable in so many cases. We are hoping that our presence at Outdoor Retailer will result in many new partnerships to help us reinforce lifelong sun safety habits."

Dermatologists are now recommending sun protective clothing as a first line of defense to help take much of the guesswork out of making sure consumers are properly protected from both UVB and UVA rays and to minimize the potential risks in relying on topical sunscreens. UPF 50+ protective sunwear, such as UV Skinz, helps to ensure maximum coverage over large parts of the body, requiring less topical sunscreen.

Sparks is no stranger to the tremendous damage that UV exposure can cause after losing her 32-year old husband to melanoma in 2001. Preventing their sons and all children from suffering the same fate is what motivated Sparks to create products that allow consumers to enjoy the outdoor venues in which they live without being concerned about skin damage from UV rays. UV Skinz provides consumers with a worry-free protective solution that Sparks hopes subsequent generations will wear as second nature. "UV Skinz makes sun protection easy and fun," Sparks says, "and we want kids to grow up wearing our Skinz as part of their lifetime skin protection routine."

About UV Skinz

MiXto SX fractional CO2 laser may safely be used for all skin types. Treatments generally range from 15-45 minutes depending on the area being treated. There is minimal pain or discomfort associated with the procedure. Often, the patient may experience a gradual heating of the skin as the treatment progresses. After the treatment, patients may feel the sensation similar to that of a slight sunburn and some tightness of the skin.

Patients may typically go outside shortly after treatment with protective clothing and with adequate sunscreen protection of the treated areas. Ten Smart Organizing Tips For Overwhelmed Parents

Parents often feel overwhelmed, frustrated and guilty as they guide their children through the stages of childhood. For most parents, cooking, cleaning, carpooling, grocery shopping, bath time, bedtime, and potty training are on the shortlist of what they are responsible for daily. It can feel like the tasks keep mounting up and there are no parenting tools to help keep up.

Chores can preclude important parenting responsibilities like teaching children about good behavior and manners, playing games as a family, or just sitting back and enjoying some peace and quiet together. Clutter and disorganization can heighten the strain that many parents already experience raising children.

Good organization is a parenting aid that leads to a more manageable life and more time to interact with the children. Maintaining a well organized life helps in parenting with less frustration and stress. Taking time out to keep the home clutter free and running smoothly does wonders in reducing parental stress.

Following are ten tips to increase peace, quiet, and free time in your home:

1.Pick-up, toss and donate.
Place an attractive large basket with handles in a central location. Designate a separate bin, basket or container for each family member marked with his or her name. Keep the bins accessible, for instance on the stairs leading up to bedrooms or lined up in the hall near bedrooms.

Every evening before bedtime walk through the house with the handled basket and pick up everything left on the floor, on counters or draped over furniture.

Transfer the salvaged items from the handled basket into the owner?€?s bin. Make a rule that bins must be emptied before bed or the bin owner will lose a privilege. You can go even further and say that items left in their bins overnight will be donated to those in need. Be insistent and consistent about children putting away their things and disciplining appropriately for leaving items in their bins. Being responsible for one?€?s belongings and helping to maintain a clean environment is a very important behavioral lesson that teaches children respect for home and family.

2.Make sure that everything has a place.
It is impossible for children to put their belongings away if there is no designated location. Make sure that there are plenty of shelves for books, drawers for clothes, bins for toys, hooks for bags, bathrobes, coats and hats. Putting things away should not be random; sometimes it goes here, sometimes it goes there. Everything needs a permanent home; board games always go in the closet, socks in the upper right hand drawer.

3.Set up hooks for coats and a bowl for keys.
Inside the door where the family comes and goes, hang a labeled individual hook for each family member where he/she can hang a coat and backpack. A wonderful addition to the hook is a cubby placed underneath the hook for hats, mittens, lunchbox etc.

Place keys, sunglasses and cell phones in an attractive bowl close to the regularly used door and be sure to get in the habit of throwing all items into that bowl. Not searching around the house looking for the keys will save a lot of time and energy and reduce parental stress.

4.Save one and toss the rest.
Children bring a lot of paperwork home from school. It is impossible to save and store it all. Choose a small representation of what the child is doing in school and toss the rest. A thin well labeled spiral ring notebook with plastic sleeves works nicely for storing a small sampling of the child?€?s hard work. An alternative to the notebook, is to scan the pages into the computer and keep a CD of the child?€?s school year.

Really wonderful pieces can be brought immediately to a great frame shop to be framed and later displayed in a prominent spot in the home. One expertly matted and framed piece of artwork honors a child?€?s hard work far better than keeping a stack of papers hidden away and yellowing in a musty box or drawer.

5.Do one load a day.
Wash, dry, fold, and put away one load of laundry a day. As soon as a day is missed, the laundry starts to pile up and the work becomes overwhelming. Teach children how to sort their own laundry and put into appropriate laundry baskets. Get children into the habit early of picking up their clothes. Teach the child women's jackets ren how to put away their own clothes in the appropriate place.

6.Hang up a shoe tree.
Hang a shoe tree on the back of the door that the family uses most frequently. Parents should insist that everyone hang their shoes as soon as they take them off. This eliminates the line of shoes scattered across the house and makes shoes easy to find as the family is scrambling to get out of the door. If the kids don?€?t hang their shoes, they lose the shoes or a privilege. Remind children consistently and the kids will begin to hang their shoes automatically.

7.Keep the bathrooms tidy.
Wipe down the bathrooms daily or the mess can become daunting; at a minimum put clothes in the hamper and hang wet towels. If the sinks, toilets, tubs and mirrors are quickly wiped clean daily there is less need for a massive and exhaustive cleaning. Make sure that the children have their own towel racks to hang wet towels on and hampers in the bathroom. If there aren?€?t enough towel racks the towels will end up being thrown on the floor and can?€?t be reused. Wet towels on the floor lead to extra laundry.

8.Sort the mail.
Sort the mail daily and immediately throw away all junk mail. Open the bills, remove the actual bill and return envelope, and throw away everything unnecessary remaining in the bill envelope. Place all bills in a folder marked ?€?Bills to be Paid?€?and keep the folder next to the computer and/or checkbook. Keep a roll of stamps, plain white envelopes, a pen and a wastebasket within reach. Pay the bills on the same day every month.

9.Dispose of broken, empty and out of date items.
Out of order telephones, obsolete computers and electronics, toys missing pieces, unused or out-of-date cosmetics, broken appliances etc. all need to be thrown away. Sometimes these items are stored in the hope of finding, fixing, mending, combining or selling. Often what happens is the useless item ends up gathering dust and taking up precious space. Throw away the unsalvageable and donate the salvageable. Take one Saturday every two or three months and go through the closets, drawers, attic, basement and garage and collect the unused items and get rid of them.

10.Use a large calendar to reduce stress.
Posting a large dry erase calendar in a central location allows parents and children alike to know what is coming up that day, week and month. The calendar should have everything posted so there are no surprises. Set a good example and be on time to appointments, school, events etc. Teach children that being even five minutes late is disrespectful to those who are waiting. Tardiness adds to anxiety and stress so being on time will help to calm down the household.

None of the above habits are difficult to implement, and each one on its own will help make the job of parenting more manageable. You don?€?t need to put everything in place at one time. Consider making one change every week. That way, within three months you will enjoy more control, free time to devote to children, and peace and quiet.

How To Grow Amazingly Healthy Plants In Your Greenhouse For Profit Or Pleasure

Here are some tips to help you grow amazingly healthy plants in your greenhouse for profit or pleasure:

Fertilizers:

If you use cloth, it can be placed outside as well as inside for cooling and shading. In fact any type of shading used outside, but with an air space between the shading and the glass, will help you operate your greenhouse more economically.

Most growing plants need fertilizing at least twice a month. Liquid fertilizing is very popular. Some growers dilute fertilizer )i or % recommended strength and then give it at weekly intervals. Apply fertilizer to moist soil, for if the soil is dry, the chemical may burn feeder roots and cause a setback.

Types of Plant Food

There are many brands of organic and inorganic fertilizers on the market. If you prefer an organic type, I suggest fish emulsion, Ovene (a stick form of concentrated sheep manure), or liquid manure. You can prepare liquid manure by placing a half bushel of cow manure in a burlap bag and steeping it in a half tub of water for 2 to 3 weeks. Dilute this "brew" with water?€"to the color of weak tea?€"and then apply to your greenhouse plants. If you prefer the inorganic fertilizers, choose Ra-pid-gro, Hyponex, Plant Marvel, Spoonit, or something similar.

When plants are resting, they do not need fertilizer. Bulbs?€" amaryllis, haemanthus, other amaryllids, and tuberous or rhizomatous gesneriads?€"need no fertilizer and a minimum of water during their dormant period.

A complete commercial fertilizer includes proper proportions of the three main plant foods?€"nitrogen, phosphorus or phosphoric acid, and potash or potassium (N, P, and K). Percentages are numbered on the container in that order. A favorite with many growers is 5-10-5. This means the fertilizer contains 5 per cent women's coats nitrogen, 10 per cent phosphorus, and 5 per cent potash.

Nitrogen helps plants produce heavy stems and good foliage. When soil is deficient in nitrogen, stems are short and weak and leaves turn a sickly greenish yellow.

Phosphorus aids plants in ripening tissues and seed. If you are planning for choice seed lots, include phosphorus (or superphosphate, as it is usually sold in seed stores) in your fertilizer. Some gardeners add super phosphate, a layer a month, to the compost pile.

Potash is to plants what vitamins are to humans. Included in the plant diet, it aids in the formation and transference of starch. Potash helps plants grow huskier with sturdy stems and foliage, "fat" fruits, and strong roots. It is especially desirable for root crops and such potted plants as gloxinias and amaryllis. If you use a 5-10-5 fertilizer, you can give your bulbous plants an additional weekly watering of muriate of potash, )1 teaspoonful to a quart of water.

Shading

Learning when and how to shade my plants was for me the most difficult phase of greenhouse operation. You can purchase various shading compounds (one called Garlands is preferred by many growers). Cement, liquefied with a mixture of water and linseed oil and diluted until it is just thick enough to adhere to glass, seems to work best for me. I brush it on the glass with an old broom extended by a stick fastened to the handle. This shading holds for the summer, even through hard rains, and a small amount adheres during the winter. By spring, when I give the greenhouse the annual housecleaning, the shading has about disappeared and the glass is ready for another coat.

Another effective method is to use slatted shading which rolls up and down like porch shades. Layers of tobacco cloth fastened inside the house also are helpful.

Avoid linseed oil in any shading mixture intended for use on plastic houses. It is difficult to remove, as there is a chemical reaction between the plastic and the oil so that the shading "sinks in," becoming part of the plastic. Houses of polyethylene plastic can be shaded with layers of tobacco cloth or cheesecloth fastened on the inside as well as by plastic screens inside or slat shading on the outside.

One orchid grower places strips of lath about 6 inches above the glass for both shading and cooling. Tinted shading may blend with the paint on your home but white shading is best, since it reflects more heat while allowing more light to pass through.

Since you want plants to reach a saleable stage in minimum time, you will have to pay considerable attention to fertilizing. A regular program is necessary. Decide on dates when you will fertilize plants, then try not to deviate from schedule unless the weather upsets the expected rate of plant development.

The First Three Steps to Health

They say you don't appreciate something until it's gone. Well then, the one thing you should strive not to lose is your health. Are you sick, or know someone who is? Many things improve health, but the three most important things to do is 1. Avoid Trans fats 2. Detoxify heavy metals and toxins 3. Supplement with healthy nutrients.
Avoid Trans fats

Do you use Margarine? Most of us do. I quit, when I learned that Trans fats are one of the biggest causes of cancer. Most everything we eat these days are made with Trans fats. Eliminating the biggest culprits is very important! Margarine, shortening, and peanut butter are all made with oil. However their structure has been changed to make them last longer. This hydrogenation process also makes them more dangerous.

Two German Doctors and noted cancer researchers in the 1930's learned a cause and a cure for cancer. Dr. Otto a Nobel Prize winner in 1931 proved that cancer happens when there is a lack of oxygen to the cell. Cells deprived of oxygen mutate into anaerobic cancer cells . They then divide and multiply using sugar for energy in a fermentation process. Around the same time another scientist and seven time Nobel Prize nominee Dr. Budwig expounded that this lack of oxygen was caused by Trans fats invading and smothering the cell.

Trans fats combine with our bodies natural cholesterol, which is used to coat, protect, and make cell walls. This new cholesterol Trans fat mixture is thickened and harder to penetrate. It is difficult for insulin to enter cells with this fortified barrier, resulting in type 2 Diabetes. When this mixture lines our arteries it causes blockages and Arteriosclerosis.
Detoxify

Toxins can be any substance or chemical that can cause illness or injury. Chemicals are in everything we eat, drink, breathe and use. Many of these chemicals are known to be harmful; others haven't been studied yet.

Most of our foods are filled with chemicals to preserve freshness and enhance taste etc. Even fruits and vegetables are sprayed with chemicals. Soda is made of chemicals. Our water has chlorine and fluoride in it. Air pollution contains dangerous fumes that invade every living thing. Household cleaners, hygiene products, etc. are made of chemicals.

Our body can only excrete a small portion of the toxins they are exposed too. Damage to the liver and kidneys leads to more toxic build up. The body places excess harmful substances where it can do the least damage, mostly in the fat cells. However toxins still accumulate in all of our cells and organs.

They have linked many illnesses with toxic levels of heavy metals. Examples: Alzheimer's with aluminum and Autism with mercury. Some forms of cancer like multiple myeloma is associated with environmental toxins. Is it really a wonder that so many people are sick? Everyone needs to Detoxify.
Supplement

The American diet is full of fat and chemicals, but lacking in important needed nutrients. Even if you follow the RDA and try t women's jackets o eat a healthy diet you are still malnourished in essential nutrients. It would take all day and then some to eat all the vitamins and nutrients our body needs to be healthy.
Chemicals can inhibit the nutrients from feeding our cells. Cola for instance is known to leech calcium from our bones. Plus the soil our crops are grown in have become depleted of minerals and polluted with chemicals.

That is why supplementation is so important. Most experts recommend supplementation and say that the recommended levels are way too low. For example the government may recommend that we get 400 mg of Vitamin D, but if our blood was tested, it would show that we would still be deficient.

Vitamins, minerals and herbs can do many things to keep us healthy and restore our health. When we catch a cold Vitamin C, Zinc and Echinachea helps us get better faster. Wounds heal faster with Vitamin C and Zinc. Antioxidants support the immune system and fight infections. Studies indicate that cancer patients are Vitamin D deficient, and that adding 1100 mg daily improved their prognosis.

Weather you want to get healthy or stay healthy avoiding Trans fats, detoxifying, and supplementing are very important. These practices all help nourish our cells. If our cells are deprived of oxygen, polluted, and don't get what they need, how can we be healthy?
